Hi Amy, great collage...i have 3 dogs(cocker spaniels) and a parrott (maccaw)two tortoises and two hermit crabs...that would make an odd looking collage dont you think ?

I love how you layered the thin strips of photos to create a comprehensive image of your special place. I know how much you love your dogs, and I can see why (they're adorable)!

Amy!
This is such a wonderful collage! It really reflects part of your personality and allows viewers to get a sense of your home. I love the image of your dog sticking its tongue out. haha. Great job Amy!!!

The animals, interspersed through the rest of the imagery made me laugh. I couldn't help but see that dog's tongue hanging out as a commentary of some kind..

I mean, on the surface it could seem mocking, but combined with the warmth of the other images it just seems...playful. I get the feeling you like where you live.

Your philosophy mirrors the warmth of your collage. You are clearly a teacher that cares about your students' well being on an emotional level.

This collage is really successful. The image selection makes you think is there more going on here?

Your 'place' does seem to be filled with animals! This seems a very sunlit and warm area, full of fond memories and experiences. I do love to get out to the wider-open places, greener places. I am not unfamiliar to the unique smell of cowflop! I miss the mountains of upstate NY where I grew up, and it seems like you have similarly strong attachments to your place of origin. You an take the boy out of the farm, but you can't take the farm out of the boy! I'm okay with that...

Hi Amy,

Thanks for commenting on "Sanctuary". I do feel that, although there are so many elements in my life, that, when merged together, create a beautiful reality!

Thank you for your comment.

Indeed, when you are conflicted in your feelings about where you live, an assignment like this is difficult.

Amy, Structure and jumble, that, to me, is the under pinning structure to life in the city. The grid patterns of the streets hold together the rest of the jumble of everything else - what happens in-between the streets is a rather freeform hodge podge of old, new, beautiful, tacky, eye-catching and eye sore. This is what I take away from your piece - the patterns of the diagonal strips, the variety of images upon the strips - collections held within a structure....a lot like city streets.

Did collage begin in earnest with the Cubists, Braque, Picasso, or before that? I've read that it is the perfect medium for Postmodern times, the combining of the unrelated, pastiche of the unexpected. Your strong piece is a good example.

Thank you for your comment on my WYWH. Moving here 'cold' was one of the hardest things I've ever done. If not for my wife, I would have left! It was like going into the witness protection program; no friends, no family, digging out from ground zero to start all over again, and to a certain extent, it wasn't my choice.

I like the way you combined the many things in your life that are important to you and make you feel at home.

Thank you for your comment, Amy. There is a link at the bottom of my post to a photo album of more fall photos on my walk. I think it would have been better to have put the link closer to the top! I think a lot of people missed it...

Hi Amy, thank you for your comment on my piece. In regards to your collage, I really like how you wove together two divergent images, but managed to keep it looking composed. Your background in photography is definitely evident in this collage. Good work!
